Project: Paper Dolls

Artist Statement: I began making paper dolls for my teenage daughters when they were small. They loved paper dolls, but I noticed a huge lack of diversity (and honestly, artistry) in the dolls that were available to them. Instead of settling, I began to make sets for them. As my girls got older, I turned my focus to other illustrative projects. It had been a few years since I made a set of dolls, so this year I decided to make a set for my youngest daughter. I wanted her doll to really represent her, so I used her likeness to create her doll. Because of her interest in fashion, her set contained blank clothes so that she can design on her own. I received several inquiries about her set of dolls from people looking for a more diverse/personal set for the children in their lives.

Digital File (printable): - The purchaser will receive a black and white digital file of a paper doll and a set of clothing that could be printed, colored and assembled at home. Purchaser can choose one doll and one set of clothing. See photos above to see the different styles, choose the style you want with the drop down menu. - $12
Premade Set - A set of paper dolls displaying a diverse range of skin tones and hair types for both boys and girls. These dolls would come with a set of clothes. Each set will be punched with holes and include metal fasteners for assembly. The premade sets will be printed in color. When color images are available, they will be added here. The black & white photos above show the different styles, choose the style you want with the drop down menu. - $35
Custom Set - A custom paper doll made to child’s likeness (including eye color, hair color and type, distinguishing characteristics, such as freckles, glasses, dimples, etc.). A clear, recent photo of the child’s face can be emailed to work from. Each set will include six articles of clothing based on that child’s style. The clothing can be either designed by me or left for the child to design themselves - $55
Additional Clothing Sets - Each paper doll will come with one set of clothes. Additional outfit sets that you can print and color can be purchased for $2! There are 3 additional distinct clothing sets available.
Shares can be picked up at the June Art Crawl on June 26th from 6 to 8 pm or from the artist after that date. People who purchase digital files will be contacted by the artist.
