Novices Welcome!
This class is an introduction to the basic techniques of acrylic painting: Value/tone, color theory, and dynamic composition will be explored.
Learn by creating an expressive spin on a “painterly" master work. Art history is full of painters who learned by reinterpreting earlier masters they admired. Van Gogh “paraphrased” Delacroix and Jackson Pollock filled his early sketchbooks with studies by El Greco. 20th century artist, Grace Hartigan, painted her way through art history in her own innovative style!
This is NOT a “Paint by number” project!
After prep studies we will begin the final canvas with fluid transparent washes and experiments with stain and drip effects. We will enjoy and discuss the dramatic dynamics of the abstract composition before focusing on details. With dedication, you will achieve an exciting painting to frame or display or to gift to someone special.
No prior experience needed for this acrylic class!
NOTE: My returning students may finish their first painting and then engage in another “paraphrase” to companion the first, or explore abstract spin-off pieces from small areas found within their painting, or may choose personal mentoring for various independent projects. ~ We would love you to return!
