The Digital Magic Workshop which will introduce students to the concept of creating meaningful films, with limited skills and tools. Students will have the opportunity to review short films produced by other students in Digital Magic workshops. The workshop will create an understanding the Importance of Subliminal Messages. Through film analysis we will explore what subliminal cues are and how they may be used to sway opinion. The workshop will demonstrate how subliminal images are used.
This program is open to Junior and Senior High School Students. Students should be able to use an smart phone.
Participants will also explore the use of artificial intelligence in their projects as well as discover how research is critical to the development of a complete story. Developing the students' understanding of storytelling from beginning to end.
Participants will create a short film that will integrate and evaluate the use of information from diverse formats and media to produce a script for editing final film.
Films will be shown and discussed on Sunday with a general audience.
About the Instructor
The Digital Magic Workshop will be led by Dr. Wilma E. Mosley Clopton, Ph.D. is an award-winning video historian and filmmaker. She uses the medium of short documentary films to tell untold Mississippi stories. To date, her body of work includes 20 short films, 5 books, a children’s coloring book, and a play about people of African descent in Mississippi – with more works currently in progress. Among Dr. Clopton’s many honors, she has been the recipient of the Artist Fellowship grant from the Mississippi Arts Commission; presented the Mississippi Humanities Educator Award; and twice received the Mississippi Film and Video Alliance’s Emerging Filmmaker Award. In addition, Dr. Clopton received the Award of Merit from the Mississippi Historical Society for exemplary documentary film projects highlighting the significant contributions of African Americans in the State of Mississippi.
