Session 2: Belly Dance the Elements: Earth, Water, Fire, & Air

Course Description: Experience belly dance through the wisdom and energy of the four elements. In this unique class, based on Keti Sharif's A-Z Somatic Belly Dance Method, we'll explore movement inspired by Earth, Water, Fire, and Air, discovering how each element brings its own quality, emotion, and expression to the dance.

Ground into the steady strength of Earth with powerful posture and rooted movements. Flow with the grace and fluidity of Water through undulations, circles, and soft transitions. Ignite your passion with the sharp accents and dynamic energy of Fire, then lift into the lightness and freedom of Air with expansive arms, traveling steps, and expressive movement.

Each class includes a warm-up, technique, movement exploration, and combinations or choreography inspired by the featured element. Along the way, you'll build coordination, musicality, and confidence while deepening your connection to your body and your own unique dance style.

Open to all levels of experience,  this class offers a creative, welcoming space to move, explore, and embody the natural elements through the art of belly dance.

Registration closes October 28th at 12 Noon

About Rachel

Hello & Welcome! My name is Rachel Coleman, and I will be your bellydance guide this fall! My bellydance journey began in 2006, originally to incorporate more movement and exercise to my day. The more I danced, the more my fascination grew, and the more I wanted to know. My love for this beautiful dance quickly transformed what was intended to be a simple means of exercise into a natural outlet of self-expression and creativity. My foundation is rooted in the Egyptian style of bellydance, but I also draw inspiration from many other bellydance styles and outside dance genres.

Over the past 17 years I have taught private lessons, group classes, and workshops for the Oxford community through the Oxford Park Commission, The University of Mississippi, and the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council. I am certified in the A-Z Bellydance and SharQui-The Bellydance Workout methodologies. It is my great pleasure to introduce women of all ages to the joy of bellydance! I hope to encourage and empower women in their own dance/movement journeys. I look forward to dancing with you!

Check out Rachel in action!
