Visual Arts Series

The Yoknapatawpha Arts Council offers programs that support the opportunities for artists to show, exhibit and sell their work. We partner with several locations in an effort to allow artists to submit their info in one location and secure a schedule of shows throughout the community for the year.

YAC offers opportunities to exhibit in group shows at the Powerhouse and Coach Ulysses Howell Activity Center and solo shows at City Grocery and Heartbreak Coffee on the Square.

Applications open annually in the late summer/early fall and allow artists to apply for shows throughout the upcoming year.

The 2024 Visual Arts Series application is now available! Click here to apply! The deadline to apply is September 30th!

Our goal by offering artists a schedule of shows is to provide focus and opportunity to create works, apply for funding to support their projects, grants for artists (https://arts.ms.gov/grants/grants-for-individuals/project-grants-for-individuals/), or use our Arts Incubator and Big Bad Business Series to grow their creative based business.

Exihibition Requirements:

1. All work must be framed and ready to hang or Powerhouse only-present on a pedestal
2. Arts Council receives a 15% commission on sales
3. If you commit to a show and do not alert YAC that you will not be able to honor that commitment, you may be removed from the remainder of the annual series.
4. You may sign up for more than one show.
5. Works delivered after deadline may not be accepted. Multiple works, except where indicated, may be edited down to one piece. Please indicate your preference on the piece's label.
6. All works must have two labels including piece name, artist name, medium and price.
7. You may submit up to three pieces per show (excluding restaurant shows), though pieces may be edited down to 1 per person depending on the number of participants.
8. All pieces must be appropriate for audiences of all ages (no explicit nudity allowed).

Due to the nature of the venues we have partnered with to provide opportunities, work must be suitable for the spaces. The Arts Council reserves the right not to hang work that is not suitable for the space.

Teaching through the Arts Council

The Arts Council provides opportunities for artists to teach classes through the Arts Council at our facilities: The Powerhouse, the Old Armory Pavilion, and the Lafayette County Arena. Anyone who is interested must fill out this application and email Caitlin Hopper at yacoperations@gmail.com.
